For over a decade, the award winning nuevo flamenco/ world music band known as CADAQUES has enjoyed consistent artistic and commercial success by grafting elements of rock, R&B, pop and a variety of other sounds to their unwavering jazz fusion foundations. In the course of three recordings the group has continued to explore the limitless dimensions and permutations of jazz while at the same time appealing to a broad mainstream audience.
The CADAQUES story begins in 1999, with guitarist Jayme Munoz, who had already established himself as a formidable figure in the guitarist community – not just as an instrumentalist but as a composer and arranger as well – with solo recordings dating as far back as the mid 1980's. In 1999, Jayme met Dan Mowery when Dan answered an ad for one of the bands Jayme had been involved with. Session drummer Steve Metz, an old college schoolmate of Dans, was brought in as well as veteran percussionist Danny Mendoza and CADAQUES was born!
After years of performing, Cadaques gained recognition locally and nationally. Performances spanning from opening for Chucho Valdez to playing an entire summer at the now regretably defunt STEAMBOAT with Los Lonely Boys and Del Castillo , created a buzz about a new cool Nuevo Flamenco sound called Cadaques.
Having placed in the Austin Music Awards for years, 2006 saw Cadaques voted Best World Music Band by the Austin Chronicle readers poll. Taking top honors for "Best World Music Band " as well as placing prominently in the "Best Instrumental Band", "Best Jazz Band", "Best Latin Contemporary", and "Best Latin Traditional" catagories. Cadaques has grown and expanded, but has always used the honest approach when it comes to their music.
Cadaques has always kept growing and expanding their sound by adding seasoned players like Matt Raines(guitar), Jesse Jimenez(sax) Felipe Borerro (horns) and Andrew Rumlet (keyboard) to recordings. But, in the end, Cadaques still holds on to that original rooty sound which has made Cadaques a staple diet of the Austin music listener.
Currently Cadaques is working on their third album, Avenida Bonita, which the band says will be a very powerful album and their best work to date. The release date for the album is set for the summer of 2014.
